Highway Parking Bay Event Detection

For traffic integrators scoping an emergency parking-bay monitoring workflow.

Why highway event detection needs temporal logic

A vehicle in a frame might be passing the bay, entering it, stopped within it or departing. The operational result depends on the vehicle’s relationship to the configured region over time. Detection quality matters, but zone geometry, association and state transitions determine whether a useful traffic event is produced.

Map scene geometry to the event definition

Draw the operational bay region from the camera view, and distinguish road traffic from bay occupancy. Agree boundary tolerance and entry/exit confirmation. Curves, perspective and partial occlusion may require camera-specific configuration. A copied ROI from another view is not a valid site setup.

Separate the three decisions

ENTRY establishes a vehicle context; OVERSTAY indicates continued occupancy beyond an agreed time; LEAVE closes the event after departure is confirmed. These are business labels, not a promise about a particular external protocol. Map them to the receiver’s actual contract and check out-of-order or repeated messages.

Evidence from the engineering case

Reviewed records cover a HyperLPR3 RKNN image route, road-video GPU/RK parity and temporal voting, event evidence, and fast/e2e runs on a specified clean RK3588 device. Single-frame differences remained in the audit. Stable agreement on the sample is not a road-wide recognition benchmark or commercial site acceptance.

Open engineering boundaries

Leaving prediction, live external linkage, difficult lighting, complex occlusion, camera compatibility and sustained operation require additional qualification. Older mock dashboards remain illustrations. External side effects are disabled by default in the referenced engineering flow. No target alert time is presented as a measured achievement.

Scope a reproducible traffic pilot

Bring authorized footage covering entry, short stops, overstay, departure and negative traffic. Agree the annotation timeline, evidence requirements and receiver test environment. Public material must anonymize plates, people and site identifiers. Hank is the single contact for agreeing the sample, package version and acceptance scope.

Keep an annotation timeline

Create a timeline with the vehicle first visible, region entry, confirmed occupancy, threshold crossing and last confirmed departure. Preserve ambiguous intervals instead of forcing a precise ground truth when the camera cannot see the bay. Compare event state and evidence association against this timeline. A delayed receiver acknowledgment should not rewrite the occurrence time. This separates perception failures, state-machine decisions and network delivery problems so that engineering changes can target the actual source of an error. Review timeline disagreements with the acceptance owner before tuning thresholds.
